I recently discovered Gapminder.org, a non-profit data visualization venture whose mantra is “Unveiling the beauty of statistics for a fact based world view.”  While started as an independent initiative in Stockholm back in 2005, it caught the eye of Google, which then acquired the site and the “Trendalyzer” software in 2007.

As someone who works a lot with numbers and data, the idea of taking user-contributed data and information from big organizations like the World Bank and making all of this accessible through attractive, interactive, and easy-to-use interfaces is exhilarating.

I would love to get the provincial-level environmental indicator data my team and I at the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy have been working on for the last year into the Trendalyzer.
