November 4th marks the beginning of the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP-22), where global leaders will gather to discuss the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, the global accord guiding international action to address global warming. The Yale Data-Driven Team will be in Marrakech, Morocco, to attend COP-22 from November 13-19. Some highlights of the team’s activities there follow below. Monday, November 14

Emissions Scenario Portal Workshop (invitation only)

At this event, Dr. Angel Hsu will participate in a project to develop an open online platform that visualizes a range of future greenhouse gas emissions pathways, depending no different economic and energy development choices.

Wednesday, November 16

Tracking and Aggregating Sub-national and Non-State Data Toward 2018 (invitation only)
9:00 – 11:00 am
Location: Le Meridien N’Fis Hotel, Avenue Mohammed VI, Marrakesh 40000, Morocco
This event, which is hosted by the Yale Data-Driven Environmental Solutions Group, the Stanley Foundation, and the Coalition for Galvanizing the Groundswell of Climate Action, will discuss the state of analysis around climate action from cities, regions, businesses, and investors. The event will also launch a working group, the Climate Action Analysis Network, which will work to build an effective evidence base to drive forward climate action.

1 Gigaton Coalition Technical Working Group Meeting (invitation only)

Dr. Angel Hsu, one of the contributing authors to the second iteration of the 1 Gigaton Coalition Report, will participate in a roundtable discussion of the report’s key findings. The roundtable will focus on strategies for harmonizing data collection and reporting around renewable energy and energy efficiency activities in developing countries.

Friday, November 18

Advancing Global Climate Action (invitation only)

This gathering will discuss the steps steps in driving climate ambition forward, with particular attention to the role of non-state actors (i.e., cities, states, businesses and investors) and several key milestones in 2018.

Meeting with Singapore’s Masagos Zulkifli bin Masagos Mohamad, Minister of Environment and Water Resources (invitation only)
Members of the Yale Data-Driven team will meet with Singapore’s Minister of Environment and Water Resources, to discuss Singapore’s responses to its unique environmental challenges.

Climate Change Mitigation Policy Progression Indicator (CPPI)– A Tool for Measuring Progression of Climate Change Mitigation at National Levels (open to anyone with UNFCCC accreditation)

Location: Japanese Pavilion
Dr. Angel Hsu will act as the discussant in this discussion of a new tool for assessing national progress towards effective climate mitigation policies.
