Dr. Angel Hsu was named a 2019 Inspiring Speaker, as part of Inspiring Yale’s celebration of research and thought leadership across Yale’s 13 graduate and professional schools.

This annual symposium features short talks from faculty nominated by students to share their innovative work and thought leadership within each of their respective disciplines. In her presentation, Seeking the Signal Through the Noise: Applied Data Science for Environmental Decision-making, Dr. Hsu noted that “data matters because it makes the invisible visible — and this is the core philosophy and underlying motivation of my research.” Her discussion delved into examples of data’s ability to catalyze policy discussions around air pollution, global climate action, and urban sustainability and equity.

She joined speakers from disciplines ranging from divinity to biomedical engineering, sharing their research with each other and a broad audience of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, as well as alumni, faculty, and staff.
